How to password protect a PDF
Last updated: · यह गाइड हिंदी में पढ़ें
Sending a salary slip, statement or ID proof? A password stops anyone who gets the file by mistake from opening it. FoxletPDF encrypts the PDF with AES-256.
How to add a password
- Open Protect PDF and choose your file.
- Type a password, then type it again.
- Choose whether people may print, copy text or edit.
- Select Protect PDF and download the file.
The file goes to our server for encryption and is deleted after download or within 15 minutes. Test the downloaded copy, then keep your unprotected original somewhere safe.
Choose a good password
- Make it long. A short phrase of a few unrelated words is strong and easy to type.
- Avoid your name, birth date, phone number or PAN, which other people can often find or guess.
- Don’t forget it. We don’t keep your password, and we can’t recover it.
Share the password separately
Don’t put the password in the same email or chat as the file. If that account is compromised, the password won’t help. Send it by a different route, such as a phone call.
What the print and copy settings can’t do
The open password is what really protects the contents. The print, copy and edit settings rely on the reader’s software respecting them, and anyone who can open the file can still take a screenshot.
To remove a password later
If you know the password, use Unlock PDF.
