Aadhaar PDF password: the format, examples and how to remove it
Last updated:
An e-Aadhaar PDF downloaded from the UIDAI website asks for a password when you open it. The password isn’t one you chose: it’s built from your own details.
The usual password format
First four letters of your name in CAPITALS + your year of birth. No spaces in between.
| Name on Aadhaar | Birth year | Password |
|---|---|---|
| Rahul Kumar | 1991 | RAHU1991 |
| Priya Sharma | 1987 | PRIY1987 |
This is the format widely published for e-Aadhaar. FoxletPDF isn’t connected to UIDAI, so if it conflicts with what UIDAI shows on your download page, follow UIDAI.
If the password doesn’t work
- Use the name exactly as it’s spelled on your Aadhaar, not a nickname or newer spelling.
- Check that the letters are capitals and the year has all four digits.
- Short names and names with initials or dots are less predictable, and published examples differ. Try the name as printed, including its dots, and then without them.
- Download a fresh copy from the official UIDAI site in case the file is damaged.
- UIDAI’s helpline is 1947 if you’re still stuck.
How to save a copy without the password
You need the password first. Neither of these methods can get past a password you don’t know.
Option 1: stay on your own device
Open the PDF in Chrome or Edge, enter the password, then choose Print and “Save as PDF”. Nothing is uploaded, so this is our suggestion for a document as sensitive as Aadhaar. The new copy may lose some features, such as a digital signature.
Option 2: use Unlock PDF
Unlock PDF removes the password in one step. Your file is sent to our server, is never logged by name or content, and is deleted after download or within 15 minutes.
Keep it safe
A copy with no password can be opened by anyone who gets the file. Don’t leave it in shared folders or chat groups. If an organisation only needs proof of identity, ask whether it accepts a masked Aadhaar, which hides most of your number.
