How to edit a PDF

  1. Open your PDF. Choose a file with the button above or drag it onto the box. It opens right here in your browser.
  2. Pick a tool. Use the toolbar to add text, images, signatures, shapes, lines, arrows, highlights, underlines, strike-throughs, freehand drawings, comments, links or whiteout. Click or drag on the page to place them.
  3. Adjust anything. With the Select tool, drag items to move them and use the corner handle to resize. The panel on the right changes fonts, sizes, colours, bold and italic, image rotation, link addresses and more. Undo and Redo are always one click (or Ctrl+Z) away.
  4. Work with pages and forms. Use the page list to reorder, rotate, delete or add blank pages, and fill in form fields directly on the page.
  5. Save. Select “Save PDF” to download your edited copy. Your original file is never changed.

Tips for editing PDFs

  • Changing existing words. Choose “Edit text” and click a line of text. FoxletPDF matches its font, size and colour as closely as it can, covers the old words and writes your new ones on top. The old words remain in the file, so this is not a way to hide information — use Redact PDF for that.
  • Keyboard shortcuts. Select an item and use the arrow keys to move it (Shift for bigger steps), Alt with the arrows to resize, and Delete to remove it. With a drawing tool chosen, focus the page and press Enter to add one in the middle.
  • Whiteout vs redaction. Whiteout paints white over something so it can't be seen, but it is still in the file. Redaction removes it.
  • Keep forms editable. Fill in forms without moving pages around if you want the fields to stay editable for others.
  • Fonts and characters. Added text uses Helvetica, Times or Courier, so basic Latin letters, numbers and punctuation work; other scripts and emoji aren't supported yet.

Your files stay on your device

Like every FoxletPDF tool, this one runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed with open-source PDF libraries (pdf-lib and PDF.js), and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. See our privacy policy for details.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to edit it?

No. The editor runs entirely in your browser. Your PDF, images and signature never leave your device, and nothing is stored when you close the page.

Can I change text that's already in the PDF?

Yes, with “Edit text”. Because PDFs rarely contain everything needed to rewrite their own text safely, FoxletPDF covers the original words with white and places your new text over them in a matching style. The original text is still inside the file and can be found by searching or copying, so this is not redaction.

How do I permanently remove sensitive text?

Use Redact PDF. It rebuilds redacted pages so the hidden content is really gone. The editor's whiteout and text replacement only cover content.

Can I fill in forms and sign in the same place?

Yes. Form fields appear right on the page — type, tick or choose your answers — and the Signature button lets you draw or type a signature and place it anywhere.

Are comments and links real PDF features?

Yes. Comments are saved as standard PDF notes and links as clickable areas, so they work in other PDF readers too. Links can be web addresses or email links.

What happens to form fields if I rearrange pages?

If you add, remove or reorder pages, FoxletPDF saves filled-in answers as regular page content so they're kept, but the fields can no longer be edited. Leave the page order alone to keep forms editable.

Can I undo mistakes?

Yes. Undo and Redo cover adding, moving, resizing and deleting items, text changes, page changes and form answers. Ctrl+Z and Ctrl+Shift+Z work too.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. You can place and drag items with your finger, and every action also has a button or keyboard alternative.

Is it really free?

Yes. There's no signup, no watermark and no paid plan.
