How to watermark a PDF
- Choose your PDF. Pick a file with the button above or drag it onto the box.
- Type your watermark. Common choices are DRAFT, CONFIDENTIAL, COPY or SAMPLE.
- Style it. Pick a colour, direction, size and opacity. The preview on the right updates as you go.
- Add and download. Select “Add watermark” to stamp every page, then save the new PDF.
Tips for clear watermarks
- Keep it light. 20–30% opacity marks the document clearly without hiding the text underneath.
- Short words work best. One or two words stay large and readable; long phrases are shrunk to fit the page.
- Watermark a copy. Keep your unmarked original — a watermark can't be cleanly removed later.
- Characters to avoid. Watermarks use a standard font, so non-Latin scripts and emoji aren't supported yet.
Your files stay on your device
Like every FoxletPDF tool, this one runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed with open-source PDF libraries (pdf-lib and PDF.js), and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. See our privacy policy for details.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to add a watermark?
No. The watermark is drawn by your browser and your file never leaves your device.
Can I add a logo or image watermark?
Not yet — FoxletPDF currently supports text watermarks.
Can the watermark be removed afterwards?
It's drawn onto every page, so it isn't meant to be removed. Keep your original file if you might need an unmarked copy.
Does it work on rotated pages?
Yes. The watermark is placed relative to how each page is displayed, so it looks the same on every page.
Is the text underneath still selectable?
Yes. The watermark is added on top; existing text and links are not changed.
