How to edit PDF metadata

  1. Choose your PDF. Pick a file with the button above or drag it onto the box. FoxletPDF reads its current properties.
  2. Edit the fields. Change the title, author, subject or keywords. Leave a field empty to remove it.
  3. Or remove everything. “Remove all properties” clears every field and the extra XMP metadata some apps add.
  4. Download. Save the updated PDF. The pages themselves are not changed.

Why metadata matters

  • Privacy before sharing. PDFs often carry the author's name, company or the app used to make them. Clear them before sending a file outside your organisation.
  • Better titles. Many PDF readers and browsers show the Title instead of the file name, so a clear title looks more professional.
  • Search and organisation. Keywords and subjects help document systems and search tools find your files.
  • Content isn't scanned. Metadata is only the document properties; it doesn't remove names written on the pages themselves.

Your files stay on your device

Like every FoxletPDF tool, this one runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed with open-source PDF libraries (pdf-lib and PDF.js), and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. See our privacy policy for details.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded to read its metadata?

No. Properties are read and changed by your browser; the file never leaves your device.

What does “Remove all properties” remove?

The title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer, plus the XMP metadata block that can hold a second copy of them.

Does editing metadata change the pages?

No. Only the document properties change; text, images and layout stay exactly the same.

Why does my PDF reader still show the old title?

Some readers cache file details. Close and reopen the downloaded file.

Can I edit metadata of a password-protected PDF?

Not yet. Remove the password in your PDF reader first.
