How to convert a scanned Hindi PDF to text or Word
Last updated: · यह गाइड हिंदी में पढ़ें
A scanned Hindi PDF is really a set of page photos, so you can’t search it or copy from it. OCR reads the letters in those photos and turns them into real text. FoxletPDF’s OCR reads Hindi and English together, which suits Indian documents that mix both.
Make the PDF searchable
- Open OCR PDF and choose your file.
- Under Document language, select Hindi + English.
- Select Make searchable, then download the result.
- Open the PDF and press Ctrl+F to search for a word. The pages look the same as before.
Get editable text in Word
- Open PDF to Word and choose your file.
- Tick “My PDF is scanned or a photo (use OCR)”.
- Select Hindi + English, convert, and open the .docx file.
How accurate is it?
On clean, printed pages, most words come out right. Expect some mistakes, especially in matras and joined letters such as क्ष and त्र. Handwriting isn’t read reliably, and neither are faded or very old prints. Always check names, dates and amounts against the original.
Tips for better results
- Scan at 300 DPI if you can. A straight, sharp, well-lit page makes the biggest difference.
- Turn sideways pages the right way up first with Rotate PDF.
- Choose Hindi + English even if there are only a few Hindi words. The English option alone can’t read Hindi.
Limits and privacy
OCR works on files up to 25 MB and 30 scanned pages. For a longer document, use Split PDF first. OCR runs on our own server with the open-source Tesseract engine. No outside AI service sees your file, and it’s deleted after download or within 15 minutes.
