How to flatten a PDF form
- Fill in your form first. Complete the form in your PDF reader and save it.
- Choose the filled PDF. Pick it with the button above or drag it onto the box. FoxletPDF counts its form fields.
- Flatten. Select “Flatten PDF”. Each field's current value is drawn onto the page.
- Download. Save the flattened copy and share that one.
When to flatten
- Before sending a completed form. Flattening stops anyone changing your answers after you send it.
- When fields look different elsewhere. Some apps show form fields oddly; flattened content looks the same everywhere.
- Before merging. Flatten forms first so their answers carry into a merged document.
- Keep the editable version. A flattened PDF can't be edited as a form again, so keep your original.
Your files stay on your device
Like every FoxletPDF tool, this one runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed with open-source PDF libraries (pdf-lib and PDF.js), and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. See our privacy policy for details.
Frequently asked questions
Is my form uploaded?
No. Flattening happens in your browser; your PDF never leaves your device.
What happens to my answers?
They stay exactly where they were, drawn onto the page as regular content.
Can I un-flatten a PDF?
No. Keep your original if you might need to edit the form later.
Why does it say there's nothing to flatten?
The PDF has no fillable fields — it's already flat. Scanned forms and printed-to-PDF files usually have none.
Are signatures kept?
Drawn or typed signatures shown in a field are kept as they appear. Digital (certificate) signatures become invalid when any PDF is changed.
