How to compress a PDF
- Choose your PDF. Pick a file with the button above or drag it onto the box.
- Pick a compression level. Medium suits most files. High and Extreme make images smaller and softer.
- Compress. Select “Compress PDF” and wait a few seconds while the server works.
- Download. FoxletPDF shows how much smaller the file got. Download it to your device.
Tips for smaller files
- Images make the difference. Compression works on photos and scans. A PDF that's mostly text is already small and may not shrink much.
- Grayscale saves more. Turning colour images grey makes them much smaller — good for documents you'll print in black and white.
- Check the result. At High or Extreme, zoom in to make sure small print in scans is still readable.
- Private documents. This tool runs on FoxletPDF's server. Files are deleted right after you download the result. For tools that never upload anything, look for ones without the “Uses FoxletPDF server” label.
How your file is handled
This tool needs more than a browser can do, so your file is sent over an encrypted connection to FoxletPDF’s own server. It’s processed with open-source software, kept only in temporary memory, and deleted as soon as you download the result — or after 15 minutes if you don’t. File names and contents are never logged, and no outside AI or conversion service sees your file. See our privacy policy for details.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
Yes. This tool needs FoxletPDF's server, so your file is sent over an encrypted connection, processed, and deleted as soon as you download the result — or after 15 minutes if you don't. We never keep copies or look at the contents.
Will the text stay sharp?
Yes. Only images are recompressed; text and vector drawings are kept as they are.
Why didn't my PDF get smaller?
Some PDFs are already well compressed, or their images use formats FoxletPDF leaves alone (such as CMYK or JPEG 2000). In that case you get your original size back, never a larger file.
What does “remove metadata” do?
It deletes the document's title, author and other details stored inside the file.
Is there a size limit?
Files up to 50 MB and 500 pages.
