How to add text to a PDF
- Choose your PDF. Pick the file with the button above or drag it onto the box.
- Add a text box. Go to the right page and select “Add text here”. A box appears on the page.
- Type and style it. Edit the text below the page, and choose its size and colour. Drag the box into place or nudge it with the arrow keys.
- Save and download. Add as many boxes as you need on any pages, then select “Save PDF”.
Tips for adding text
- Filling a printed form? Zoom the page in your mind's eye: 10–12 pt usually matches form text.
- Fillable form? If the PDF has real form fields, Fill PDF Form is quicker and neater.
- Multiple lines. Press Enter in the text box to start a new line.
- Supported characters. Text uses a standard font, so basic Latin letters, numbers and punctuation work; other scripts and emoji don't yet.
Your files stay on your device
Like every FoxletPDF tool, this one runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed with open-source PDF libraries (pdf-lib and PDF.js), and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. See our privacy policy for details.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded to add text?
No. Text is added in your browser; the file never leaves your device.
Is the added text selectable and searchable?
Yes. It's added as real text, not an image.
Can I edit the PDF's existing text?
No. FoxletPDF adds new text on top. Editing text that's already in a PDF isn't supported.
Can I add text to several pages?
Yes. Move between pages and add boxes wherever you need them before saving.
How do I delete a text box?
Select it and press Delete, or use “Remove selected”.
