How to compare two PDFs

  1. Add the original. Choose the older version on the left.
  2. Add the changed version. Choose the newer version on the right.
  3. Compare. Select “Compare PDFs”. FoxletPDF reads the text of both files and lines them up.
  4. Review the changes. Added lines are green, removed lines are red. Download a text report if you need to share the changes.

Tips for comparing documents

  • Contracts and agreements. Check that only the clauses you agreed to change were edited.
  • Text, not layout. FoxletPDF compares wording. Changes in fonts, colours or images aren't shown.
  • Reflowed text. If a paragraph was re-wrapped, its lines may show as changed even if few words differ.
  • Scans. Scanned PDFs have no text to compare.

Your files stay on your device

Like every FoxletPDF tool, this one runs inside your browser. Your file is read from your device, processed with open-source PDF libraries (pdf-lib and PDF.js), and handed straight back to you as a download. Nothing is uploaded, logged or stored. See our privacy policy for details.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to compare them?

No. Both PDFs are read and compared in your browser and never leave your device.

What exactly is compared?

The selectable text of each PDF, line by line.

Does it compare images or formatting?

No — only the words. A visual comparison isn't available yet.

Can I save the result?

Yes. Download a plain-text report listing every added and removed line.

Why is everything marked as changed?

The documents may be laid out differently, so their lines break in different places, or one may be a scan without text.
